...give it to a working mother. That's one of the findings of the Corporation for National & Community Service's new survey: Volunteering in America: State Trends and Rankings. Other findings suggest that Utah is the state with the highest level of volunteering, that Florida and New York have the lowest levels of volunteering, and that 30% of Americans are volunteering their time, which is an increase over prior periods.
The research is geared more towards philanthropic and community service as opposed to trade association and professional society initiatives, but it's an interesting rebuttal to the conventional wisdom that volunteering is in decline. It seems that people are just finding other outlets for their urges to volunteer.
