Customized social networking

Ning is a new social networking site that allows users to create their own custom online social networks. So now anyone can set up a social networking site for any group of people with common interests. That should be attractive to a lot of association professionals.

Trouble is, it's yet another social networking site for which you need all the usual profile information, password, username, etc. Still, I think this technology and others like it will be attractive for associations who are trying to find ways to engage their membership communities via an increasingly familiar form of virtual networking.

As an experiment, I've set up CAE and Proud, a customized social networking site for CAEs, prospective CAEs, or anyone who wants to virtually hang around with CAEs. Please drop by and join, just like Rick Johnston did!

Hi Ben - great way to test Ning. I've been thinking about creating a social network for our association so this is a great way for me to check it out first.

I sent you a friend request - thought I'd send you a comment so you know who i am.

I think i might have been the guest you were saying 'hello' to on the Ning chat. I didn't realize it was there until I came back to the page much later :)

I'm glad to have you as my friend, Kathryn. It sure gets lonely typing to nobody in that chat box. :-)
