I just learned about it today, but Convio, makers of the popular email advocacy product GetActive was hacked two weeks ago. Usernames and passwords were apparently stolen."Convio has identified a security attack against our GetActive platform, which many nonprofits, associations and higher education institutions use to send email to volunteers, donors, members and other constituents."
My employer may be affected. Other associations using GetActive are American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, National Association of REALTORS (NAR), American Nurses Association and many, many more.
I'm trying to figure out how serious this breach is. Based on my knowledge of this product, I believe the risk of having parts of your online identity stolen is pretty low. But, if you had your information hacked, your likelihood of getting spammed is now higher. Also, if you opted in to GetActive's system with a username and password, and you use the same username and password on other sites, you will probably want to get to changing your other passwords.
UPDATE: Convio insists the REALTOR family of associations was not affected.
