Via SvN, I found this article at trendwatching.com on involving customers in the design process. This is how associations have always done it, right? So why aren't associations more highly respected for this practice? Is it because the strategy is wrong, or do we not execute well?

Sure, customer-made is a part of associations, but how many of the five whys (Status, Bespoke lifestyle, Cold hard cash, Employment, and Fun and involvement) are really being provided? If none, isn't customer-made just volunteerism?
