Good question! I guess it depends on if there had been a lot of muggings or other crimes in the park lately. I remember reading somewhere that, by actually acknowledging there was a risk, the hotel makes itself liable in some way if something did happen because it could be argued they didn't do enough to prevent a problem.
Wish I could remember where I read that...
Personally, I think it's a bit silly--anytime you wander around a city, there's the potential for problems that no hotel should have to guarantee your safety around. Should they post that, once leaving the property, you may be at risk for getting hit by a bus and they can't guarantee you won't? C'mon.
